My work shares qualities with movie stills, Byzantine icons and Persian miniatures. I avoid textured brushwork, perspective and other methods of subverting the machinery of the eye, preferring visual stillness instead. The goal is to create beautiful things attractive enough to invite repeat viewing, but strange enough to be honest. Recently, I have begun moving away from a single-image iconographic style toward multi-paneled layouts inspired by the narrative frescoes found in Ethiopian churches and Hindu temples. Attention which has been captured and kept steady is capable of great things.
